About CR's Crafts

Our Start

CR’s Crafts was started by Clarice Brown in the small town of Leland, in north central Iowa. It all began with two patterns Clarice created for a Christmas Tree and a Santa, which were followed by some bear patterns. This was back before bears became so popular. That first original bear pattern is still selling today! See Sitting Bear and Softie Bear #36012.

Originally she worked full time and the "hobby" was worked on in the evening at home. Pretty soon she needed help and other family memebers were enlisted or was that conscripted into helping. It expanded into the basement and soon into the garage.

Doll joints were hard to find in stores and armatures were rarely used yet. In fact joints and parts were so hard to find that customers kept asking her to carry and sell them. Thus the warehouse side of CR's Crafts began. Pretty soon the house was too small and it was time to "move out." In the 80's a small part of our current building was purchased for the business. After four additions to the building, we now have 16,000 square feet full of supplies.

Interest in dolls and bears has grown dramatically over the years and so has our business, thanks to doll and bear makers like you. The interest has grown so strongly that CR's Crafts now has over 100 original patterns created by Clarice.

From those first patterns, kits and supplies to make them were added and currently we have over 7,000 items in inventory We now offer the largest selection of doll and bear making supplies and accessories in the USA. We distribute for numerous companies and sell products from around the world.

Our last catalog is online and jammed full of bear and doll supplies. A long way from our first 16 page catalog.
